American Dance Festival
Heralded as “One of the nation’s most important institutions” by the New York Times and as “The world’s greatest dance festival” by the New York Post, the American Dance Festival’s sustained record of creative achievement is indivisible from the history of modern dance. The annual festival is a six-and-a half week series during the months of June and July and offers performances and residences by major established companies and emerging artists from around the world. Many significant African and African American artists and companies perform during the festival. Performances are held at locations throughout the city of Durham at Duke University, Carolina Theatre, Durham Arts Council and the Durham Performing Arts Center.

Bellan Contemporary Dance Theatre is a contemporary dance company committed to the continued growth of dance as art. The company provides emerging and master choreographers, dancers and artists an inclusive environment for the creation, development, curation and presentation of groundbreaking, multi-genre, multi-media collaborations to worldwide audiences. Bellan’s mission is to influence, motivate and collaborate with individuals and organizations through arts education, performance and movement that will enhance their lives, health and productivity.

Gaspard & Dancers was founded upon a shared passion for collaborative modern dance forms. Their vision is to create, perform, and teach movement that is physically inventive, emotionally dynamic, and inspiring to people of all ages and backgrounds. Its Founder and Artistic Director Gaspard Louis was born and raised in Haiti. His experience includes being a dancer with the cutting-edge and internationally renowned Pilobolus Dance Theater. In addition to performing, touring, and teaching globally with Pilobolus, he collaborated on nine major dance works during this formative decade with the company.
